Revit house

In class we made a house for our partner on Autodesk Revit. We made sheets to fully show the details of the house.

This project was fun, but we did not have much time to work on it, and many people did not finish it when it was supposed to be done, including me. Other than that, it was a fun project.

Design Charette

Today we did a project in class that required us to get into a group of six and make a design charette. We had to build a city on 100 acres of land and we needed to meet specific requirements.

Our notes looked like this:
Nathan M was the cost estimator.
Ben was the Environmental Engineer
Michael was the Health and Safety
Matt was the Health and Safety
Nathan K was the structural engineer
Sebastian Swanson was the interior designer

The environmentalist says 3 trees per house.

“I’m the structural engineer, nothing I say helps much”
-Nathan Kuhlman

For every road, there shall be a sidewalk
-Nathan K

There should be a couple acres of park total.

We will have a playground, and a soccer field.

“we need an important thing in the center”
-bower

“PINEAPPLE”
-Nathan M

Hospital i the center of town, a mall, doctors, auto shop, grocery, gas station, mc Donalds, Old country buffet, Leann Chins

150 houses needed

(50*.25)=x

x+x+x+x= 50 acres

“ERRything better fit regulation”
-Bower

“That’ll setya back about a million”
-Nathan

“I finna build some parks”

We should make sure all the buildings have an efficient set up
-me

Ben talks about his awesome idea for a three way road.

“So we’re gonna make a 2 acre school”
-Nathan

“That’s one small school”
-Bower

“What, Why”
-Nathan

I learned how important teamwork is in design charettes is, and how bad it can be if a design charette doesn't work together. I like how we got to work as a group for this project. I didn't like our project because it was, in my opinion, one of the harder projects. If I were to do anything differently, it would be to work faster, so i would not have been rushed near the end of class.

Shed activity-Revit

In class today, we had to make a shed on Revit. We got the instructions and just had to follow them.
In this project, I learned how to use Autodesk Revit. It was challanging finding how to do what was described to me, and sometimes it wasn't very clear to me. Designing a shed is relevant because you might want to build a stable shed for your yard to store things in, and it is expensive having someone else build it.

Roof project

Last week our class worked on a project. we had to build a roof out of sandpaper, glue, cardboard, tissues, and popsicle sticks.
I learned that the glue burns when you get it on your hands. I liked using the glue guns and gluing things together. I didnt like it when i got glue on my hands or using the rounded popsicle sticks. If i were to do this differently, i would make sure everything was the same dimensions because the roof turned out a little curved.

Engineering career

The project that we just finished was about our career 10 years in the future. we had do describe our job, how we got there, and we had to interview a professional engineer(PE). I interviewed a PE at gaston engineering gaston@gastonengineering.com. I learned how much work it takes to become a PE and the benefeits of becoming a PE. I didnt like how difficult it was to find information about college courses. I would not do the project any differently.

Greek Revival Architecture

The past few days we have been working on a project in class. We had to build a model of the architectural style we chose.

I learned that the Greek revival style has a symmetrical shape, narrow windows, and a symmetrical shape. I liked making the pieces of the house, but gluing the pieces together was annoying because you had little time to set the pieces before the glue cooled down. if i could do it differently, i would have made it a bit smaller.
